Coalition hunts for
truth behind labeling

Sound Packaging Coalition
claims that a proliferation of
“green” labels and advertising
claims are misleading con-
sumers and causing confusion
in the marketplace.

To address this issue, the
Coalition and the B.C. branch
ofthe Consumer’s Association
of Canada have joined forces
on a project aimed at identify-
ing and correcting false envi-
ronmental labeling and adver-
tising.

The program is called “The
Challenge: Truth in Environ-
mental Labeling and Adver-
tising”. It has received support
from Consumer and Corpo-
rate Affairs Canada.

-One aspect of the project
will be an audit of products in
the marketplace to find exam-
ples of labeling that misrepre-
sents the environmental im-
pact of a product or container.
A further aspect will be to seek
the opinions of major stake-
holders.

One-day workshops are be-
ing planned for Winnipeg,
Toronto and Vancouver.
