The fight for the Castlegar-Robson
bridge continues.

Mayor Audrey Moore has instructed
city officials to prepare a report to be de-
livered to Transport Minister Art Char-
bonneau, urging him to okay construc-
tion on the $23.5 million bridge by
1993.

“It a great concern to us,” Moore said
Thursday. “It’s becoming a greater con-
cern everyday.”

Moore said the report will concen-
trate on Castlegar’s traffic problems —
problems she says are bound to get
worse.

“I expect (the traffic problems) will
continue,” she said. “I don’t think activ-

ity has peaked at the pulp mill, so we °

can expect more.”

Pointing to the Celgar Expansion
Review Panel report, Moore said the
government must live up to its com-
mittment to build the Castlegar-Rob-
son bridge.

“It’s the only thing that will be able to
move the truck to and from the mill
safely,” she said.

Moore said she would work closely
with Rossland-Trail MLA Ed Conroy to
ensure the government begins con-
struction on the crossing to accomodate
the increased truck traffic.

“T think it’s a great idea,” Conroy
said of applying the pressure. “I’m do-
ing as much as I can here but we need
to have a united front if we are to get
this bridge through.”

Conroy said he is meeting with Char-
bonneau Tuesday to take another shot
at bridging the Castlegar-Robson gap.

“We need something done, that is ob-
vious,” he said. “Whether that is a
bridge or a second access, it doesn’t
matter, something has to be done.”

Moore agreed, saying any word from
the government would help.

“Being human, if you know when
(the bridge) will be built, you would be
able to pt the problem b aso-
lution is on the way.

“It’s the not knowing that has people
concerned.”
