With a total of four machines, if one breaks down, they will always have another machine to rely on. “We will be better able to schedule grooming to have it done in a reasonable time. If one of (the snowcats) breaks down, we will always have a backup.” Kokkinen said. Along with the addition of the snowcal, the maintenance build- ing has also had major improve- ments. This year, they have room for two snowcats, with imple- ments inside whereas last year there was room for only one machine, but the implements had to be removed to fit them in. “We now have a more efficient operation,” Kokkinen said. The result is a more stream- lined maintenance program, which in tum means the machines will be able to spend more time on the hill doing what they are intended to do—groom the runs—not sit inside the shop. On the marketing side of the ski hill operation, Kokkinen said the owners have taken the catire area into consideration when deciding upon a marketing pro- gram last April for this ski sea- son.
