By Bud Lowther NEWS COLUMNIST Castlegar Pensioners Golf Club members climbed in their cars or otherwise procured transportation as they hit the road for an 18-hole tourna- ment at Trail’s Birchbank Course May 14. A warm and sunny day greeted about 139 Pensioners from across the Kootenays and into the U.S. progress Birchbank has made in the last several years. With a new water hazard and maturing trees it is devel- oping into a top-notch course. Oscar Johnson of Christina Lake came in with a 78 for the low gross score of the day, while Castlegar’s George Crossley was tied for second with Al Becker with 80. Qur own Herb Woods had the overall low net score of 61. The winning four-man best ball team was Ken Cook of Trail, J. Christian, J. Melvin and J. Derek. About 53 local golfers made it out for the club’s regular meeting at the Castlegar Golf Course May 7. Ball winners for low net scores of the day included Otto Anderson, Zeke Clements, Hal Knutson, Charly Christian- son, Pete Stupnikoff, Frank Holdsworth, Arne Akselson, Herb Woods, Dave John and Ken Price.
