its readers for the language used in dis-
cussing D. M. Carley, editor of the Nel-
son Economist, but it was necessary,
because that ia the kind of language he
uses and isthe only kind he conld un-
deratand.

Day, and-the Canadians have apprecia-
ted that fact and would not object, and
in fact, encourage the Americans in the
proposed celebration.

If Carley represents the sentiments of
the Nelson people, then the citizens of
Rossland had better carry out the sug-
gestion of having s four day’s celebra-
tion, including Dominion Day and the
Fourth of July. The’ first, Canadian
day ; the second, miners’ day; the third,
ngustriai day, and the fourth, Ameri-
can day..

A Very Low Excursion Rate Is Ex-
pected During
the Fair.

‘The Recoro is in receipt of a cirenlar
from the manager of the Winnipeg In-
dustrial Exposition Association, stating
that it has been satisfactorily arranged
so far as providing a suitable building
fora Britigh Columbia exhibit is con-
cerned and that it was broucht about
throngh the instrumentality of the De-
partment of | the interior, and the co-op-
oration of Sir John Hendry and Mr. Me-
crac, who were in Ottawa at the time
matter was arranged with the govern-
ment last week.

All mineral exhibits willbe carried to
the fair free and live stock will be car-
ried at practically -a nominal figure,
80 per cent of the one way rate, and
be returned free to. the original
point of shipment.

While it is not absolutely decided up-
on, it is almost as good as settled, that
extremely low excursion rated will be in
force iu order that those who wish to

small cost.

Northern Pacific and the Great Northern

board of trade or city council do not
care to take the matter in hand a com-
mittee should be appointed by the
mayor to look after the matter.

W. H. Teall Dead.

Last evening Wi. H. Teall died at
his home in this city of typhoid. pneu-
monia, He was taken ill Monday, April
23, He was 37 years old, and leaves ‘a
wife to mourn hie Jose. He hae been in
this camp since Jannary 1898, and’ has
been employed in the War Eagle mine.
He will be buried tomorrow under the
auspices of the Rossland Minera’ Union,
at which he wasa member in good stand-

remained away ten hours, although they
were sent for sevoral. times during’ that
