In the first examples of censorship since it started a full-scale review of rock videos last April, the board has ruled under-age audiences may not view the band’s Relax video because it is too sexually explicit and the Two Tribes clip because it contains graphic violence. The board's rulings, made earlier this month, don't extend to other provinces or prevent the videos from being shown on television or in such public places as record stores. Many music video programs now broadcast the unedited version of Two Tribes, hailed by critics as one of the best-produced and most potent anti-war videos ever. Edited versions of the two videos submitted by the group's record company have been cleared for exhibition under the Ontario Theatres Act as long as those under 14 are accompanied by adults. The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommuni- cations Commission can cénsure or revoke licences of broadcasters showing abusive programming, while por- nography is addressed in the Criminal Code. NO HOLDS BARRED In Two Tribes, actors portraying U.S. President Ronald Reagan and Soviet President Konstantin Cher- nenko are pitted in a bloddy, no-holds-barred fight in a dusty ring as a multicultural audience bets on the out! come. There is groin-grabbing, ear-biting, nose-bloodying and finger-thrusting. The message in the Two Tribes video is simple: there would be no war between nations if their leaders had to do the fighting. It starts with the Reagan lookalike thrusting his middle-finger at Chernenko in a gesture many Canadians associate with former prime minister Pierre Trudeau. Chernenko decks Reagan with a punch in the face. As Chernenko waves to the crowd, Reagan sneaks up from behind and kicks him. With Reagan's back turned, Chernenko grabs the U.S, leader in the groin but releases his grip when Reagan steps on his foot. Reagan then draws blood by biting Cherenenko's ear and later bloodies his face. Often-unflattering film of former U.S. president Richard Nixon and militaristic footage is weaved into an extended version of the song’s video — both the cut and uncut ones. The audience gets involved in the fight and the world explodes as the video ends. The board said it issued the “R” rating because the “bloodletting scene . could be offensive.” Will new commentator NEW YORK (AP) George Will has been named commentator for ABC's World News Tonight, where he will provide the program's first regular commentary since 1978 Will, a Pulitzer-prize win ner whose regular appear ances on the news program began Sept. 10 has served as an ABC news analyst for This Week with David Brinkley, Nightline and ABC News special political coverage sin ce 1981 Crossword i fj i ji if (nfl ! ii s i sace i f- DPR APFAB nit COLUMBIA COIFFURES Ave., Couteger Ph. 365-6717 SCHNEIDER'S DING SUPPLIES LTD. oe Seenine Section TRA SOME DANCER . . » Kaela Ternghates 6, attended highland dance competitions in Kelowna, Spokane and Nelson this summer to win six gold, one silver, and four bronze medals, os well as three aggregate trophies in her class.
