The poll also indicated 73
per cent of the respondents
favored random breath an-
alysis tests for drivers, while
24 per cent of the respon-
dents were opposed to the
tests.

Respondents were asked:
“Could you tell me if you
favor or oppose tougher sen-
tences for drinking and driv-
ing (random breath tests for
drivers)?”

The poll showed that men
and younger adults were
generally less supportive of
tougher measures for drunk-
en driving.

World War Hawker Hurri-
cane fighter plane used in a
filming of the movie Battle of
Britain was sold at auction
recently for a record 260,000
Ib. ($587,600 Canadian). The
seller was Scottish landown-
er Sir William Roxekts and
the buyer was his family
trust.

The craft was one of 25
from the collection at the
Strathallen Aircraft Museum
put on the block because they
were becoming too costly to
maintain, said Roxekts.

‘Vow stands, will

“If they want us to sit all
summer, it's not compli-

House Leader Yvon Pinard.
“We have 26 bills on the
order paper.”

In an interview, Pinard
said he wouldn't rule out
overtures from the Conser-
vatives to take the scheduled
break but he made it clear he
won't launch any initiatives.

has no plans to adjourn the
Commons next Monday and
Tuesday, when leaders of the
seven major industrialized
countries are in Ottawa for
their annual summit meeting,

mount aren’t proud that a
mountain was named in hon-
or of Terry Fox — they're
just not sure which peak it is.

sulted about plans to name
the peak after the one-legged
athlete who lost his battle
with cancer June 28. He said
he learned of Environment
Minister Stephen Rogers’
announcement by local radio
news reports.

“I have been trying to find
out which one it is,” he said.
“They are building a lookout
point, but there are a couple
of mountains in that direc-
tion.”

The mayor said he was
disappointed, after learning
which mountain was chosen
in memory of Fox, because
“you can just see the crown
of it, looking through a notch
in the mountains.”

He said a mountain behind
the one chosen by the B.C.
government would have been
more appropriate as it is
more impressive.

government figures, the
mountain is 2,651 metres
(8,656 feet) in height and is
located at 52 degrees, 56
minutes north, 119 degrees,
14 minutes west in the Sel-
wyn Range. It is 11 kilo-
metres northwest of Vale-
mount and 21 kilometres
southwest of Mount Robson.
In making the announce-
ment, Rogers said travellers
can get a clear view of the
mountain from Highway 5,
about 7.5 kilometres north of
Valemount, or on Highway
16, 6.5 kilometres past the
Highway 5 junction.
Ministry of highways
workers are installing view-
point signs to help clear up
any misunderstandings as to
which peak is Mount Terry
Fox. A permanent memorial
cairn is being installed at the
Highway 5 viewpoint.
Mount Terry Fox was
B.C.’s highest unnamed
mountain that could be seen
from a public highway and it
is believed that it has never
been climbed.
