► AS I SEE IT WITH HARRY PEPPER This week's column will be something of a mixture, and my first item will be to congratulate Alfie AIbo Jr . and his rink for their fine showing in the Nelson Mens " Little " Spiel. Alfie and his rink of brother Jim, Jimmy Driscoll and Ivan "The Terrible " Bell wound up with second prize in the "A" competition, losing by the slimmest of margins in an extra end game to the Benedetti rink from Nelson . Second prize , incidentally was a matched set of curling sweathers . Good going, fellas ! Next, those north -bound hockey players who form the Rossland Intermediates have been preppring for their trip to the tundra with games against an all-star team from the Creston District Intermediate League, whom they defeated 7-3. They will play a second game if time permits before the trip north . They also played one game against Laueners of the Trail Commercial League and won it 8-4 . I'm sorry I don 't have details of these games, so this will have to suffice for now . Between the second and third periods of Saturday night' s game against Trail at the Arena, Bev Berry, vice-prexy of the West Kootenay Junior Hockey League made presentation of ttie annual awards. There were seven categories, the League Championship Trophy, won this year by the Junior Warriors , and accepted by Captain Jimmy Cotton. The Top Defenceman Award was won by Cotton in a close battle with Trail ' s Morris Reg- I ~J i He has two younger brothers who aspire to be hockey players. They are Kirk , a member of this year' s Bantam Rep team and Mike who plays on the Pee Wee Reps . Both are also defenceman . fencemen . Lyle has played all his hockey in Rossland 's Minor Hockey setup, a member of all Rep teams from Peewee up . His other sport is baseball, which he started in Little League and continued as a member of the Rossland Colts for 3 years. Lyle is a grade 9 student at Rossland Secondary School and would like to continue his education in conjunction with hockey if possible . He was a member of the 1967-6 8 Peewee Champs which won the East-West Kootenay title , and he won the Most Valuable Player Award in his last s eason as a Peewee Pup. Big enough to make a good solid rear guard, Lyle moves the puck out of his own end very well and has quite a good chance to make his mark in local hockey circles. One of a brother act on this year's Warrior club, my next candidate is a forward like his older brother , Rick. Eddie Rosse is 16 years old and a member of a family of sportsminded people .
