D6 CASTLEGAR NEWS, Thursday, August 30, 1979 l ‘In the West Boundary Area ale ~~ Pulpit & Pew F , 3 By * PASTOR ROY HUBBEARD Pentecostal Tabernacle, Castlegar The summer is quickly 1, nearing an end. Soon the hills Ps JOURNEY into the past has been made by a sister and. her two brothers whose lives changed overnight 53 years ago when their mother, Mrs. W. J. (Kathrine) Presley, died suddenly while visiting a friend in a store owned by Hansens in Nelson. This left a father with five children. He too died two years later. The only girl, who was three months old at the time, was immediately ac- cepted and later adopted by a Rossland farnily. and is now Mrs. Jens (Marg) Hatlen of Victoria. The boys, of which two are now deceased, were put into an or- e in New . The oldest, James Farrant of Pl Hill, Calif., in backg' d d recently with his only surviving brother, Harry Presley of Vancouver, and sister for their first visit to their mother's grave. Mrs. Hatlen says she has had a good life with both a mother and a father multiplied by the contact she has kept with her brothers. The brothers’ will be covered with the colors of autumn. The days will be noticeably shorter. The weather will become cooler. The tourist traffic will dwindle to a trickle. We will know that the summer has come to an end. This season always re- minds me of the words of the prophet Jeremiah. He cried out, “The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved.” Then’ he raises the question, “Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? Why then is not the health of the daugh- ter of my people recovered?” Jesus also talked about the harvest. “Say not ye, there are yet four’ months, and then cometh harvest? Behold, I say unto you, lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.” Again Jesus said, “The harvest truly is great, but. the laborers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth laborers into his har- vest.” *. Jesus was not talking about an agricultural harvest but a spiritual harvest of men and women, boys and girls and teens that needed to be reaped for Christ and saved from sin. i Jeremiah had the spiri- tual harvest in mind when he d the unsaved condi- were not so fortunate. In the orph all were divided into age groups without any recognition of blood ties. Their past lies in a truck in which James remembers all the family’s personal belongings were placed, A truck they would dearly like to locate. tion of his people and the reaping was over. He looked for healing for his people and asked if a source of healing was available. Obviously, he discovered that there was a source of healing and salvation for his people for he asks, “Why then is not the health of the . daughter of my people recov- ered?” ‘ The answer is simple. There was a source of healing for them but they refused. to make use of it. There was a balm in Gilead but they did not avail themselves of that healing virtue. They had brought about their own destruction. : Today we see a parallel, ’ There is healing for the sick _ and sinful individual; There is restoration. for the whole man in Christ Jesus. Isaiah tells us concern- ing Jesus, "Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried - our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and affilcted. But he was wounded for our trans- gressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastise- ment of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes'we are healed.” : ,. Jesus bore our sins and sicknesses on Himself that we might be made: whole. “Why then is not the health of the daughter of my people Tecovered?” The answer is simple. The source of deliverance is in Jesus but they have not accepted His provision for them. He died for them but ; they have not accepted Him as Lord and Savior of their ” lives. They need just to admit their’ sinful condition .and in repentance, ask Christ Jesus to forgive and become their Savior and Lord. There is another paral- _lel. The Bible tells us that ‘ there is coming a day when it will be all over, It will be too late: to accept Christ as Savior. The harvest of souls will be past, The summer will be ended and there will Be those that are not saved. They will have to face Christ in eternity totally and for- ever lost. : y Daniel calls it, “everlast- ing contempt.” The impor- tant thing for us right now is: Have I personally accepted Jesus as my Savior while . there is still time? Do not delay while the God of love reaches out his hands in mercy and forgive- ness to a ripening harvest field; receive the healing that can freely be ours through + Jesus. : Complete with a sanita: Men’s & Boys’ sizes. ~ 29% Wolo ‘Laser 2’ Hockey Skates Built With Quality Features You Can Depend'On - Moulded hockey skate has “Lange's” Stee! hockey blade that stays sharp.
