RS Castlegar News June 5. 1985 COMMUNITY NEWS Retired Celgar machinist dies Robert Alfred’ Chase of Castlegar passed away June 2, aged 61. Mr. Chase was born Aug. 3, 1923 in Port Arthur, Ont. where he grew up. He lived for 15 years in Marathon, Ont. He came to B.C. in 1969 to work at the Celgar pulp mill, where he was a machinist until he retired in 1984 due to ill health. He married Marjorie Har- ris in December, 1948 at Thunder Bay. Mr. Chase is survived by his wife Marjorie of Castle gar; son John of Vancouve: daughters Robin DeBruyn of Mississauga, Ont., and Debr of Chase-behn, Australia: brother Ted and sisters Jean Chase and Helen Morgan, all of Thunder Bay; and two grandsons, John and Michael deBruyn of Mississauga. All sessions were held at the Washington Inn and the Royal Canadian Legion. Registration began May 7 and 8. Following registration, a welcome tea was held in the hospitality room. A golf tournament was held early in the day but was not too pleasant because of the inclement weather. Joint opening ceremonies were held in the Legion Hall with grand lodge officers and sisters taking part. The mayor of Courtenay and Chancellor Commander Reg Webber of Comox Courtenay Lodge No. 64 wel comed the guests. Supreme Chief Marion Gib- son of Illinois and Supreme Chancellor Joseph Kramer of Montreal were introduced and welcomed. Grand Chief Genevieve Marinus of Courtenay, and Grand Chancellor Ted Eagles of Kamloops welcomed all. A degree staff competition of 16 sisters followed with Comox-Courtenay No. 7 and White City Temple No. 11 Powell River. On May 9 grand sessions began at 8:30 a.m. under the convenorship of Grand Chief Genevieve Marinus. Visiting dignitaries were introduced and given approp- riate honors. There was roll call of subordinate temples and opening of grand temple in ritualistic form. Then there was the report of the credential committee and conferring of grand ‘temple degree, instructions of visi tors, the the reports of grand chief and grand officers.
