Where is he from, and where did he get started? - 3.R.N., Poplar, Mont. ° Doc Severinsen The “Tonight Show” band leader was born Carl H. Sever- insen in Arlington, Ohio, on July 7, 1927. The son of a phy- sician, he picked up the nick- name “Doc” as a child — his fa- ther was known as “Big Doc,” and he was called “Little Doc.” Severinsen was a musi- cal prodigy. Encouraged by his father, he began touring with the Ted Fio Rito Orchestra in the 1940s before graduating from high school. After the war, he played with bands led by Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, Charlie Barnet and Vaughn Monroe. In 1949, he became a staff musician for NBC in New York City and was a studio trumpet player, with key people in your surroundings. TAURUS P April 21/May 21 You must put on more speed, as things liven up. You scem to be more in the mood to put spare time to practical rather than rivolous use now. You'll either be adding to your education this week, or turning a hobby to use. GEMINI- May 22/June 21 __ This‘is an especially good time for clearing off outstanding desk work. Steer clear of the social scenc this week. Friends could be rather morose; they'll certainly dampen your spirits if you join them. Sunday and Tuesday could both be romantic days. CANCER + June 22/July 22 All goes well for most of the week, but you may have to face up to a tiresome responsibility come mid- week which robs you of free time. And others won't be in the best of moods — but don’t let them get you down, Pay no attention to their grumbles, or their pessimistic views. LEO - July 23/August 23 . Little jobs need your attention this week. You might be hoping that oth- ers will take them off your hands, but appeals for help will be in vain. Best thing is to get them over and done with as quickly as possible, however boring they are — and then to seck the company of people who will add a touch of light relief to an otherwise dull week, VIRGO - August 24/Sept 22 It's a good week for attending to any practical arrangements that have to be made on behalf of children, rela- tives or anyone else with whom you are closely involved. An aunt or uncle could make demands on your time. A fine time for dealing with anything that is of a down-to-earth nature, LIBRA - September 23/Oct 23 Guard against taking too long to get through what you have to do this week to avoid stress in May.
