If the Boer delegates don’t hurry up and get home they won't have any home left.—Belleviile Iftelli- gencer. The deal by which J. C. Brown joined Martin’s government and George Kennedy became postmas- ter of New Westminster in succes- sion to Brown has_been completed. Both Brown and Kennedy hvae THE RIGHTS OF LABOR. Governor Mackintosh was asked long ago if there would be labor trouble in British Columbia. He answered, ‘*No.” When asked why not, he said: ‘‘Treat the working- man fairly and he will treat his em- ployer fairly.” ‘But what is treat- ing him fairly?” “Giving him good wages for good work and recogniz- ing his right to combine to advance his interests, as doctors, lawyers and others do.” What more could any reasonable man ask? These sentiments were not expressed to catch votes, for the interview took place long be- fore Governor Mackintosh had any thought of becoming a candidate for the legislature. They are also in tull accordance with his own rec- ord in his dealings with labor unions, extending back for 25 years. When Governor Mackintosh was publishing the Ottawa Citizen, he employed union labor, fought for it and helped it to win a victory at a time when union men were shut out of every other printing office in the city. He is simply supporting the same principles on the stump which he consistently practiced as an em- ployer and he will fight for them as valiantly in the legislature as he fought for them against his fellow- employers at Ottawa. Every man can tell that Governor Mackintosh “is sincere in the sentiments he ex- Presses with regard to the rights of labor, for he has, prov- ‘ed his faith by his works. Can his rival say as much? —— THE MILLENNIUM AT HAND.
