We want to get people here “in the summer and winter,” That was how mountain supervisor Lorne MacDermid ex- plained why 200 members of the ‘Red Mountain Ski Club decided at their general meeting last Wed- ‘nesday to work with the Red Mountain Development Society in- promoting Rossland as a tourism area, After being told by president-elect Don Ross that they “are at the crossroads” club members decided they would support the development of a resort town but stressed their concern that it evolve without destroy- ing the small community atmosphere they enjoy. At Nelson the Rebels scorers were Doug Knowler with two goals and Greg Moroso, Barry Stretien and Bruno Tassone with a goal each, bs Robert Richichi and Bar- ry Jones scored for the Maple Leafs. Moroso opened the scor- ing in the first period with a goal at the eight minute mark, Eight minutes later Richichi tied the game up with a goal oh an assist by Kevin Melansen. The period ended in a 1-1 tie, In the first minute of the second period Richichi scored his second goal of the game, assisted by Harold Scham- hart giving the Maple Leafs a 2-1 lead. i At the seven minute / Recreation News _/ Santa Comes tothe Arena This Saturday at 11 a.m., Public Skating The public skating Santa Claus is going to be dropping into the Community Complex by helicopter. There are going to be Christmas treats for the kids and a photographer will be on hand if the kiddies wish to have their pictures taken with Santa. A chorus of school chil- dren will be leading a Christ- mas Carol sing-song. There will also be free public skat- ing at the new arena during the event from 11:80 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Men's Basketball League Registrations are still being taken at the Recreation office for the Greater Castle- gar Area Men's Basketball League. Males aged 16 and over are eligible to register. ” Four or five teams will be formed and one game per week will be played at the Selkirk College gymnasium. The league will run from December to mid-March. Registration fee is $16. Junior Hockey Castlegar Rebels are busy this weekend with two home games; Friday night the Grand Forks Border Bruins visit and the following evening, the Rebels host the Rossland Warriors.
