Wednesday, August 5, 1992 West Kootenay Power turns soil on new site Trail Mayor Sandy Santori and Stu McKay, West Koote- nay Power’s Senior Vice-Presi- dent of Operations, officially broke ground Tuesday to begin construction of the utility's new headquarters. The $5.2 million develop- ment, slated for downtown Trail, includes a 150-car park- ing facility, with 80 under- ground stalls, and a 50,000 square foot office-retail build- ing on the riverfront Es- planade purchased from the city by WKP for the develop- ment. “This is an important com- mitment for Trail and all West Kootenay Power customers,” said Santori. “It lays the groundwork for our downtown redevelopment and for the long range future of WKP in the service area.” The four-storey office and retail complex will be a model of energy efficiency, incorpo- rating a number of conserva- tion breakthroughs into its de- sign. For instance, the window system (Visionwall) makes the building self-sufficient in heat- ing to temperatures of minus 20 degrees Celsius during hours of occupancy. Together with a water source heat pump, the Vision- wall system promises to virtu- ally eliminate electrical con- sumption for heating. Similarly, in the summer, the window system’s reflective characteristics will, in combi- nation with a 100 per cent out- door air economizer, provide “free cooling”. A water source heat pump — further supplements heating- cooling exchanges through en- vironmentally friendly processes. Additionally, high insula- tion values in exterior wall panels (R27) and the roof (R16). will help ensure a comfortable year-round climate. “This building will be a showcase of leading-edge ener- gy conservation inroads that can be achieved in our service ‘Vv MARINE wv LEGALS 912 Boats For Sale 1989 20' REGAL.
