Assistant coach Neil Jones expects more than 60 local swim- mers to compete in the meet, and is certain that at least half will qualify for events in the upcom- ing provincial swim meet, to be held in New Westminster August 20-22. “Last year we had about 25 kids competing in provincials, T'm pretty sure we'll increase that this year.” Castlegar was successful in bringing home nine medals at the provincial level. Not bad for a smaller club competing against larger regions at that level. “Larger regions have an advan- age in their numbers, but not nec- essariy in enthusiasm.” The teams competing in the Nelson Regional Meet include: Castlegar, Robson, Nelson, Trail, Grand Forks, Creston, Kimberly, Fernie, Greenwood and Colville from the U.S.. Out of these clubs, Jones is predicting a strong showing from the Trail swim club in both regionais and provincials.
