TO-HELP TOMMY ATKINS The Minstrel Show Will Afford an Opportu- nity, Net Only for Enjoyment, but te de Your Share for the ‘“Absent=Minded Beg= get's” Poor Family. sm To the Public:—The splendid and | most worthy object of the Mansion House fund has found a warm re- sponse in the heart of the entire British people around the world’s wide ring. Find us the smallest spot on earth wherever a dozen Britishers have their lives to live, and there the cry of the widows and orphans of the ‘Absent Minded Beggar” calls for the doing of the one thing needful in the moment, and that is to make some provision for those dependent on ‘‘the man * behind the gun.” ‘Greater love no man hath than he who layeth down his life for his friend,” and every Tommy and Jacky now wearing his heart out under sweltering skies where death and danger lurk, is doing his manly duty for Britainand liberty, and proving his greater love by offering his life's blood for us Britishers who sit at home and watch with anxious heart his re- verses and successes. Can we for- get or shut our eyes to the need, the urgent need,of aiding thase who, be- cause the bread-winner is fighting our cause, the cause of civilization and advance, in tands of converse seasons, are in suffering from ‘star- vation aad want? This appeal has been caught up and responded to husiastically all over Canada: The city of Nelson has loyally contributed her share ($1400), to this cause. It is only fair to say that Rossland” has left itself open to rebuke in this regard. Not a finger has been stirred, so far, with good results, and the ‘‘Ab- sent-Minded Beggar” is matched by to Ge, which is a good advance Katie D. The advance in Rathmullen stock was caused by the striking of the ledge on the 200-foot level of the Maple Leat mine in Summit camp in the Boundary country. The news | was brought to the city by F. D. Howe, the consulting engineer of the company, who is now at the Windsor. In describing the strike to a REcorp representative, Mr. Howe said: “4 shaft was sunk 66 feet anda crosscut run from the bottom, first east, then north, which struck the ledge at a:distance ot 4o feet and proved to be 34 feet between. w: alls. The shaft was then sunk to the 200- foot level and a crosscut run south of east to get the ledge again. This has just struck the ledge on the foot wall, at a distance of 100 feet. We ran 12 feet across the ore and then started to drift north “in order to get under the ore body shown on the 66-foot level. There are two paystreaks on that level, one on the hanging, the other on the fot wall; but we have not yet crosscut to the hanging wall on the lower level. The ore is copper and iron sulphide, with a showing of galena on the 200-foot level.” In speaking of other mines in that district, Mr. Howe said: ‘‘Some fine developments are being made towards the Mother Lode, in the!
