wil ,..,. IIEy \ I .....- Tuesday's Retirees outing on the Rossland course saw 51 members present, a slight drop from our two previous outings. The Scott boys, Don Krug and Bart Dudley bad honey pot-points, bidden holes, high and low, and the long putt on number nine and the winners of balla were, for honey pot, ,Joe Bielli, Bill Vickers and Jim Scott for the long putt on nine. That venerable old gent, 85 and getting better all the time, Gil Page, proved be still bas a steady band by sinking an 11-footer for a win. 1be bidden hole winners were Al Dixon for high on number seven and E. Defoe for low on number two. Our clubhouse gents bad grilled ham and cheese sandwiches and a great dish of beans on the side for us. They will have a new surprise every Tuesday for you all Let's all get in there and show Bill and Dave wae appreciate their efforts! Other summer sports are starting to flex their muscles now. The Rossland Eagles bas a mixed slow-pitch league which I'll be watching on Sunday afternoon. They play every Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Cook Avenue Park, which I see bas been given quite a face-lift job. I bad a report on aching muscles and sundry bruises and strains which some of the older guys will have to watch out for in the future. The Legion bas its usual slow-pitch team which play in a league of other Rossland and Trail teams. This team bas been quite a consistent winner in their league for a while now. I bear the boys can use a llWe financial help so any of you Legionnaires with spare cash laying around, there is a good place for it. The way these guys play it, slow-pitch can be a pretty good spectator sport. I would say that anyone who wished to, got a good chance to look at the Man in Motion when be 9 • passed through Rossland recently. A very gallant · young man, Rick Hansen is well-spoken and with a heart as big as all outdoors. His talk to the young people at the park outside the school made very clear what be feels their aims and objects for the future should be. Rick is clearly our man for all seasons. Now to the big baseball leagues: in the National, Montreal Expos are a respectable third in the East. In the American League, Toronto Blue Jays are in third spot in the East Division. It looks as though the two Canadians are not in too bad shape, neither team bas pitchers who are exactly setting their respective leagues on fire but both have some fairly good hitters who can win a ball game for you with timely bits. As I write this both series in the Stanley Cup playoffs are going on. Philly seems to have gotten Montreal on the run and Edmonton seems to have found the secret for beating Don Holmes favored Red Wings, you score the winner with only 30 seconds left which doesn't give the opposition much time to tie it up. However, even if Detroit does lose we have to give Jacques Demers and his fine hockey team a great big round of applause for the great job they have done for themselves this season, from a nothing team last season to challenge very strongly for the Stanley Cup this time around. Asl>on would say, "it ain't finished yet" and Yogi would quote, "It's never over till its over." To golf for a moment. Nm week the Retirees will have Chris Christiansen and Carl Seefeldt on the desk, I don't know if Bart trusts his leg yet to golf, if not, he'll help, no doubt. Now its time to say "Tll nm time then! -------~~-----___......----------- ----=-- - ,_.=---_ _ J
