NEWS/MIRROR CHRISTMAS EDITION ee and peacé. The scene is set and Christmas comes By LORNA MATOVICH . Grade? Twin Rivers School As the bright lights of Yuletide caressed the snowy evening, the sound of many ringing bells could be heard asa horse-drawn sleigh full of merry-making people became visible. All through the night, snowflakes fell gently on the streets to make a soft carpet of white. The shrill sound of children’s laughter revealed the merry moods the’ season and making: ready for the joyous day ahead. Families, friends, and relatives were all brought together to sing Christmas carols, a joyful custom that all enjoyed very much. Grandmas, mothers and daughters all busied them- selves in kitchens making’ pudding, and baking cakes and various cookies. Outside ‘in the snow,’ men hooked up their horses and sleighs to go and look for a Christmas tree of their liking. When they arrived home with a beautiful Christ- mas tree all the children, b' and small, danced ‘and--de children, hung.” : ings, made their wishes and nta. The older folk sat by @ flickering fire and talked old days‘and past Christ- mases with happy faces and content hearts. * Finally, after much wait- ing, the night before Christ- mas ‘arrived. Early in the evening the children were tucked snuggly into bed and later the adults followed. All were excited and fell into deep, contented slumber with hope and wonder of the oncoming morning, it doesn’t take snow to make Christmas By oes BULLOCK rade 4 One ae in December, . two little children were cry- ° ing, for there was only one week’ until Christmas and there was no snow! They thought that if there was no snow, Santa couldn't deliver the presents to their house. Their mother tried to tell them that Santa would deliver presents no matter . what. “I'm sure it won't worry him if there is no snow. I'm sure he'll come anyway because he wouldn't want all the little children crying,” said mother. ° “I'm sure he will figure something out.” Soon it was~ Christmas Eve, but still there was no snow. The children were cry- ing harder than ever. Finally they went to sleep. In the morning they were very surprised. There under the tree were pres- ents, lots and lots of pres- ents, their stockings were bulging with treats, but still there was no snow. Santa had’ ‘come after all. And oh! were they happy. That was the happiest Christmas ever.
