The Castlegar Sun Wednesday, December 21, 1994 Good News Of Great Joy! Submitted by: Pastor Stuart Laurie, Living Waters Faith Fellowship on’t be afraid, for I bring you good news of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in-the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord.” And so with this message, delivered by an angel, to a gathering of shepherds, came the announcement of an event that would alter the course of mankind forever. As we celebrate and enjoy the Christmas season it has been some 2000 years since this message was first declared on that first Christmas day. Although much time has past I believe it would be of great benefit for us to reflect on the significance of what really began in that humble stable of Jerusalem. God has always had a plan to share his great love with us. He created us in his own image and likeness that we might have an abundant life. However because of man’s free will choice to go his own independent way, fellowship with God was broken and personal experience of His love was lost. The provision for this situation if found in Jesus Christ. He was born of the virgin Mary, lived a perfect, sinless life and suffered death on the cross in our place. He has bridged the gulf of separation between God and man by rising from the dead, victorious over death and is now, the way to restored fellowship with God. Believing this good news and receiving Christ as Saviour and Lord enables you to experience being a child of God, knowing his love personally every day of your life. This Christmas you will probably give and receive gifts from family and friends. It’s a familiar tradition. But did you know that God is also a gift giver? He has a gift that is personalized just for you. It’s His wonderful gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ. It includes the forgiveness of your sins, your adoption into his family, a promise of abundant life and the certain hope of an inheritance reserved in heaven. But like any gift it takes both giving and receiving to complete the transaction. It’s my prayer and desire for you that you would open your heart and receive this wonderful gift. Make room for Jesus this Christmas, in the inn of your heart! 11 pm Holy Commanion BAS. Contemporary Dec. 25: 10 am Holy Communion B.CP. ALL WELCOME The Rev. LOVE-ACCEP TANCE FORGIVENESS Here's a survival list for those alone How do you face these won- derful family holidays when you're all alone? Alone can mean many things. The single parent says, “I am alone.” The young couple or elderly couple Then there is the alone- ness of the ihwidow- person which may be the worst of all. However you describe it, you fee! alone! I have a plan. Instead of being on the defense and trying to avoid the season, lets go on the offense and put some of these “blues” on the run. This is my survival list: 1, Plan activities, do them whether you “feel” like it or not. 2. Make your own plan, don't wait for others to make OBITUARY you happy. { 3. Accept reality. Be hon- help to others. We all have something to 7. Be clear on what you want, there is no magic in Christmas. 8. Get exercise, walk, swim, skate, get out doors. 9. It’s only one day out of 365, don’t let it ruin your life. 10. IF YOU NEED HELP ASK FOR IT. The key to all of this is action. It can be a good holiday, maybe even a great one.
