We extend our sincere grati- tude to those in Castlegar and the surrounding communities who have supported our work in 1994 and through 1995. Your financial contributions will support our Family Services work throughout 1996. Our Family Services provides food hampers, clothing, emergency shelter and much more for those in need. Without your generous giving, we could not pro- vide these services to your community. As a result, the following statistics for the period from January to September, 1995 reflect our provision of service. 466 food must be cooking a financial and/or food donations may be dropped off at our Family Services location at 1100-3rd St. All perishable, And please, no home P it is against health regulations. Helping the Salvation Army allows us to help those who need it most ! Cancer society holds meeting RUBY MARSH For The Castlegar Sun At the Nov. 6 bi-monthly meet- ing of the Castlegar unit of the Canadian Cancer Society, there were many items on the agenda to be discussed and acted upon. First among these was the wel- coming of three new volunteers to the Society: Louise Zaitsoff, Diane Egan and Debbie Briggeman. Next was a report by Joy Anderson, our new education chairman, on her discussion of breast health with several wom- ens’ groups during Breast Health Month in October. This year, Anderson will also be assisting the public health nurses when they take the No Smoking pro- gram into the schools in January. Five more nurses have been trained to instruct at our twice yearly Breast Self-Examination Teaching Clinic. One of these nurses, Jane Vatkin, will take over the | position of nurse trainer from Lee Landis, who has given many hours of her time during the last eight years. Debbie Briggeman will be i for the April campaign and will again be ask- ing for assistance from those who have in past c: worked so efficiently and effectively. Two Breast Self-Examining Teaching clinics were held in November. Thirty-three women took advantage of these. By doing BSE, women are able to detect any change in their breast tissue and thus take more respon- sibility for their own health. There were discussions on how best to get information on the Society's emotional and financial assistance programs to those who can benefit from them. Most breast surgery in our area is done in Nelson and Trail and many patients do not know the Society has people-who can provide them with information and support. After serving as president for eight years, Ruby Marsh has stepped down and Anne Zibin has become the new president. Looking It Over - Many items were for sale during a fashion show and sale at the Robson Community Hall Saturday afternoon.
