LIFE Aoyama Tech students spend three weeks at and about Selkirk College Lotsa fun! Eighteen students from Aoyama Technical College in Tokyo, recently spent three weeks in Castlegar participating in an English language cultural/ex- change program as part of Selkirk College’s International Education Program. Carrie-Lynn Brown, tour co-ordi- nator for the Selkirk College Inter- national Education Program, says, “Aoyama Tech has sent students here for five years now. It’s an edu- cational experience for the students to see the differences in Canadian and Japanese culture.” “Also, Aoyama is a Technical school so they see the differences in structures, architectural engi- neering, graphic design, and draft- ing,” she added. The students were kept very busy while here with English classes in the mornings and a wide range of recreational activities in the after- noons, “It’s amazing what they can see and do in a day,” said Brown. “They’re really well organized as a group and the weather has been very cooperative so we’ve had a lot of beach time.” Tours of Castlegar and area his- torical sites, points of interest, the Creston Valley Wildlife Sanctuary, as well as canoeing, houseboating, tennis, golf, softball, horseback rid- ing, swimming and picnics were all part of the program.
