A less well-known fact is that men can get breast cancer, too. Although it occurs in only one in 2,500 men, it’s something to think about. Most doctors do not check for breast cancer when they examine their male patients. An alert young doctor asked me how long I had had the small lump near my right nipple. I told him it had been about four years and I had never paid any attention to it. He did a biopsy and it turned out to be skin cancer. Minor surgery was performed and the tissue was sent to a lab for analysis. To the surgeon's surprise, the result showed that I had two types of cancer. The hospital can- cer board said I needed a mastec- tomy because one of the cancers was ~infiltrating lobular carcino- OTe YOU Fino YOURSELF LOST INA STORE ++ STAY ALERTZ., STAY I THE STORE/Y UST GO T0 THER! REINHOLD CALLING ALL COLLINS - Aren't Joan Collins and Jackie Collins sisters? I see little re- semblance between the two, but looks are not always a reli- able indicator. Didn't Joan Collins get her start as an ac- tress in England? If so, when? - K.B., Miami Joan Collins Joan and Jackie Collins are indeed sisters. Jackie Collins is a novelist who found fame and fortune writing about the darker side of glamour in such novels as “Hollywood Wives,” “Chances” and “Lucky.” Joan Collins is an actress who be- came a household name when she played the manipulating Alexis Carrington in “Dynas- ty” (1981-89). Joan made her stage debut in England in 1942 at age 9, playing the part of a boy. A na- tive of London, she was trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and worked exclusively in England until 1954, when she made her first American films, “Land of the Pharaohs” and “The Virgin - Queen In the. latter, she played opposite Bette Davis, who had the title role. Most re- cently, Collins starred in “Col- lins Meets Coward,” a trilogy of Noel Coward playlets that recently aired on cable’s A&E, and she just concluded a star turn in a Broadway production of Coward’s “Private Lives.” Joan has starred in two films based on books by Jackie: “The Stud” (1978) and “The Bitch” (1979). NOT-SO-HAPPY DAYS - How old is Erin Moran? Where is she from? - M.E., Shreve- port, La. Moran was born in Burbank, Calif., on Oct. 18, 1961, which makes her 31 years old. She played Joanie Cunningham in “Happy Days” (1974-84) and starred in the spinoff series “Joanie Loves Chachi” (1982- 83). She declined to participate in the recent reunion special of the show, citing unhappy memories of her tenure there. Moran, who began appearing in commercials when she was only 6, also had roles in “Dak- tari” (1968-69) and “The Don Rickles Show” (1972). THE CARPENTERS - How old was Karen Carpenter when she died? What was the cause of her death? Also, what is her brother’s name? - G.B., Kirksville, Mo.
