I =iftJ~!.ALtc:: My first note this week comes from two of the Kardiac Kids stalwarts, Al Lavorato and Babe Laface, who travelled with the team to Vancouver. On their recent trip, Babe told me they won both games and failed to talk the opposition to into coming to Rossland for two return matches. However the Vancouver club could not commit themselves and Babe says they will probably wait until later when the weather turns more like summer. Meanwhile, on the Ross1and ball front the Eagles program is going well in providing the Kardiac Kids with opposition. It looks like Centennial and Cook Avenue Parks are both going pretty steadily. The Legion team was on the top of the league the last I heard. Another sport being played in Rossland again this year, bocce, started last Sunday in the Legion pits with a mixed tournament The bran~ sponsored league, which proved a success last year, has now started again with first games of the season being played on Monday night. The weather was not the best and the teams look forward to something a little better as the season continues. Oh, by the way, the wife was on a team of bocce pros, Phil Bateman, Bert Morrow and Joe Mazeppa were her partners and won first prize. 1bat made Jean pretty happy. Golf is going strong. As my legs begin to get back in shape I'm enjoying it more all tbe time. Chris CHristiansen and I went to the Bircbbaok Invitational last Thursday and I played ~ roliDd with three pretty good guys - Les CbrilClansen, "Chier' Buna and Marcel Proulx. Another feature of the invitational this year was the lunch we were served. I don't think I've ever had a lunch at Birchbank that I enjoyed as much as I did that. A very complete lunch served up in good taste is always a nice windup for that kind of a do and I felt compelled to go to the kitchen and offer my congratulations to the coob. Very well done, girls! Meanwhile our weekly luncheons served up by Bill and Dave keep up to an excellent standard. This Tuesday we had bacon, eggs, toast and fried spuds and it was still the same standard as was the first one. From golf to soccer for a bit I dropped by the high school park on Sunday and caught the second half of the game between Rossland and Nelson. The score was 2-1 for Nelson. The winner by Dan Sicupac was scored with not too many minutes left. I would hazard a guess that he was played quite a lot of soccer by the way he went about getting that goal. It was something to remember and if you're a youngster, a real lesson in one of the finer points of the game. The Retirees golf attracted some 58 members for Tuesday's workout It was a cool day with a threat of rain but I don't think any of the boys got wet out there. Roger 1t{cEwown and Tim Jenkin were in charge and dia a first-class Job, the bar boys, Bill and Dave, also did a fine Job as they dished up the goodies to all. Whether you ate breakfast or called it lunch it was still a great meal. I think our members should remember this food ls an offering of everything that we need to help make our day a success and as such I would say we should all make an attempt to take part and show the boys that we appreciate what they are trying to do to help us enjoy our day. Certainly they have to do the Job they are there to do and we have to say they are fulfilling that task. As you saw earlier in this column, everyone is beginning to understand that you treat these young people right you will get an ample reward. I think Bill and Dave are doing all they can to make this work out ANYWAY, THE WINNERS ON TuesdaY.'S ' :: ,, 11 1 1 11 I:! 1. 1 , , 1 1, Ii 111 ' ·' 1J sununer.
