The children, accompanied by four adult Saati Me and Mrs. . D'Arcangelo and Richard” Bis rison, flew from Castlegar to Vancouver on Friday, May 11. They stayed in the Vancouver Youth Hostel and ate their meals at Totem Park Resi- dences on the University of British Columbia campus. Highlights of Saturday included a tour of Vancouver Harbor on the “Yukon Belle” with commentary by the old Sea Captain; a slide show and walking tour of Gastown (including the Wax Museum), and dinner in Chinatown. Skana, the killer whale, provided entertainment at the Aquarium and the beautiful surroundings of Stanley Park helped relax the group in the ectic schedule, Elizabeth Park; Vancouver's flower pot, and its Conservatory was Sunday morning's first stop for the group. Later they watched a shell collecting on the crowded Locarno Beach, the students ventured to Queen Elizabeth Theatre to see the “Amazing Kreskin", an ESE, specialist and hypnotist.” After a walking tour of UBC on Monday morning, with a special tour of the chemistry department, the group drove to the airport for their flight back to Castlegar. Flying back on that clear day was as tremendous as the trip down. Geography lessons were never so pleasant as then, when one could see ~ the mountains, valleys and muddy Fraser River from 12,000 feet. A caravan of parents met the students at the airport to transport them back to Silver- ton, New Denver and Hills. The. students had been planning this tour and raising money for .it. since last January. Donations from indiv- iduals and local organizations and an assortment of fund- raising activities helped lower the individual cost to $60 per Steenhoff's Hill in New Denver was tho site for the crowd-pleasing soap box derby Sunday afternoon, The derby was held in two age ' groups with two cars competing at a time, Tt wasn't all fun.
