They belong not to the wealthy capitalist, but in the main to the laboring man. He does not build for speculati but for resi- dence, and all the laws of economics show that he puts his savings into a home only when he has confidence in the permanency of the city and in its future development. This is the case in today in Rossland. Another moral we would draw from the array of new roofs seen from the hilltops: this building is a wise move on the part of the labor- ing man. By a prudent arrange- ment he can pay for his new home in ii the monthly outlay hardly greater than the THE ROSSLAND RECORD. WILLIAM K. . ESLING. ‘THe Ovprst DAity IN THE INTERIOR. Total sales, 21,200 shares, PROSPERITY AND GROWTH. Few things about Rossland at- tract the attention of visitors more than the number of buildings re- cently erected or now in the course of construction. Of these the courthouse, which is soon to be completed, is by far the costliest and most extensive. Bnt the other buildings ‘in the aggregate go be- yond it in value and are vastly more significant. The courthouse is a public structure, provided and paid for at public expense. The other buildings are matters of private en- terprise and investment, and it is of them we wish [to speak. All ‘through the business section of the city new and substantial stores are going up and old ones are being re- modeled or enlarged. In the resi- dence districts new dwellings are rising on every hand. Far out in the suburbs even, little cottages are springing up in groups. If one takes his stand on any of the hill- tops about the city he (may easily count scores of new buildings. We said these new houses attract the attention of visitors, and we wish to emphasize visitor rather than resident. The latter is likea member of the family circle who searcely notices the rapid growth of the child he sees every day. On the other hand the guest who comes only at intervals sees tl.e child reaching toward manhood ty leaps and bounds. The building of these new houses | agenta for Athi a C. rear Fields’ ig Th ree .
