Volunteer service is another major factor with which the group is concerned. Eventually the group hopes to develop a workbook which will assist communities in activating volunteers on a grass-roots level. “Volunteer workers are vital to their communities,” Gauthier said. “People have to understand that every hour committed to volunteer work is essential. If you take part in one small portion of a community project, you are a valuable piece of the whole.” The Tri-City Health Promotion Project is a three-year, three city, $300,000 project which receives funding from the B.C. Health Research Foundation, an administrative body which uses provincial lottery money for health care purposes. “Trail, Nelson and Castlegar are constantly comparing how these local projects are going and we’re constantly evaluating them,” Gauthier said. ees next wats is ove survey resource desta a , eee project.” Gauthier said that in the not too distant future the group will unveil this community-based service project that will be tailored to benefit the whole community. “Everyone always says ‘I wish there was something we could do.’ Well, this is their chance to do it.” she said.
