All of the swimmers improved their own times a great deal and this improvement can be attributed to the stronger competition. Although we were the smallest club at the meet, with the exception of Princeton, the 14 swimmers amassed a total of °172 points, good enough for an amazing fifth-place finish among 14 teams, This finish could have easily been fourth or third, as the team was only a few points away from these positions. Iam very confident that if the club sent its full contingent of 180 swimmers, we would have been fighting for the championship against the pow- erful coast clubs from North Delta (who won the meet) and Abbotsford. What impressed me the most was the poise and class the swimmers exhibited at the meet. The fact that they were competing against some of the province's top swimmers did not seem to bother our kids one bit. ie Although. the competition at the provincial meet in Van- couver will be tougher yet, 1am fid that the swit Leitch and Josef Berger. Among the great indivi- dual performances turned in were the efforts of Mike Berger, Jason Leitch and Rob McGauley. Mike set two new records at the meet in the boys 11 and 12 Individual Medley and Butterfly while Jason, competing in the same age group, captured the aggregate trophy for amassing the great- est number of points. Mike was the runner-up. Likewise, Rob tied for the aggregate in the 13 and 14 age group, and his reward was the effort of many tough swims against several top calibre swimmers. For the girls, Doreen Innes tied for runner-up aggregate, and Alexis Walsh performed well, also. Perhaps the unsung hero was Jeff Stewart, as he turned several personal best times competing in the boys 15 and 16 age group. Another record was set by the boys 11 and 12 medley relay, breaking a six-year-old record. The members of the relay are Chris Wanjoff, Joe Berger, Jason Leitch and Mike Berger.
