His search leads him to a dangerous group of renegade truckers. The NBC movie, which was inspired by an actual event, airs Sunday, Dec. 6. “Shadow of a Stranger,” Emma sala and Parker Stevenson star as affluent young marrieds who steal away for the weekend to their house on the beach. But blackmail, betrayal and murder enter the pic- ture when they meet a mysterious couple. But despite his undeni- able comic talent, Martin can’t approach the hilarity that Spencer Tracy lent to the role of the harried, loving father. Still, “Father of the Bride” is sweetly appealing. _ RR NNT SE Hepburn, O‘Neal star in ‘The Man Upstairs’ BY FELICIA A. FEASTER he Man Upstairs” (CBS, Dec. 6), one of the silliest premises for a TV movie, sports an equally bizarre pair of Hollywood recluses: Kath- arine Hepburn and Ryan O’- Neal. Hepburn stars as Victoria Browne, a spitfire old maid who one evening discovers jewel.thief Moony Polaski (O’Neal) raiding her refrigera- tor. Rather than call 911, Vic- toria develops a fondness for the prison escapee, who re- minds her of a soldier she loved decades ago, and finds in Moony a good excuse to kick up her aging heels one more time. The odd couple become fast friends and prepare to cel- ebrate an unusual Christmas together. While it makes for good yuletime viewing, the greatest joy of “The Man Up- stairs” is seeing Hepburn again. e Leaning heavily on the cutesy factor and a resem- blance to “Home Alone,” ABC’s “To Grandmother’s House We Go” (Dec. 6) is a holi- day offering that stars twins Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen (“Full House”). The girls de- cide to help out their haggard mother (Cynthia Geary), a convenience-store manager, during the seasonal rush by embarking on a trip to their grandmother’s house. Along the way, the twins tackle a pair of idiot thieves (Rhea Perlman and Jerry Van Dyke), who hold them for ransom. e Stacy Keach plays an ex- perienced driver whose son is “dusted” by a pill-popping trucker in “Revenge on the Highway” (NBC, Dec. 6). To avenge his son and make the interstates safe for the com- mon automobile, Keach buck- les up and steers his big rig on a cross-country drive for jus- tice. e TNT's “Four Eyes and Six Guns” (Dec. 7) concerns the Western pilgrimage of a sensi- tive optometrist (Judge Rein- hold) who wants to be a gun- fighter and helps Tombstone marshal Wyatt Earp (Fred Ward) focus in on the town’s bad guys by fitting him with a pair of new spectacles. e “My Own Private Idaho” (Showtime, Dec. 10) has a pret- ty-boy cast of the thinking teen-ager’s sex objects. River Phoenix stars as a gay male hustler working the streets of downtown Portland, Ore., when he’s not collapsing into a sudden heap of snooze. Keanu Reeves is the son of the city’s mayor, biding his time before he collects a handsome inheri- tance by slumming with the lo- cal pack of vagrants, dope fiends and hustlers. Darkly funny and unique, the film is impeccably photographed. Phoenix is amazing as the fragile, in-love street waif. INEROL@ES “A Day in the Life of Holly- wood” (premiering Tuesday, Dec. 8, on Showtime) is in its own way the perfect Holly- wood metaphor: people shooting a movie about peo- ple taking pictures of people who shoot movies. Camera crews tag along as still pho- tographers snap the famous and the wannabes for a new addition to the “A Day in the Life” series of coffee-table books. Among those inter- viewed is Mariel Heming- way (pictured). Pat O’Brien and Dorothy Lucey are the hosts of “How’d They Do That? The new reality series which is previewed Wednesday, Dec. 9, on CBS, goes behind the scenes to show how various feats and achievements - from scientific breakthroughs to solving crimes — are actually accomplished. ae That Special Sports Card Lars CASTLEGAR SPORTSCARD Castleaird Plaza 365-7556 ii Ci Celebrate the season with a new hair “e style, color treatment, perm, manicure, pedicure, facial, or make-over.
