Dog care urged

Please allow us the opportunity to
remind the public that once again
dogs running deer have become a
problem in local rural areas. The fish
and wildlife branch informs us that
the problem is particularly evident
around Salmo, the Slocan Valley and
Robson-Raspberry. Deer are very
vulnerable to natural predators and
harassment by dogs at this time of the
year, especially the does as fawning
time nears. .

Tog owners should be reminded
that their pets should be chained for

the night as they will usually sneak off
in the early morning hours to do their
chasing. If your dog is absent for
hours at a time and returns looking
somewhat exhausted, you could
suspect that he has been chasing deer.
In any case, it is illegal to have dogs
running in pack$ and in the bush
unattended. We would urge that dog
owners care for their pets properly
and do their part to help conserve our
wildlife heritage.
