The telescopes will be returning to Syringa on Sept. 1
for those of you who missed the opportunity to stargaze
Aug. 24, Guest speaker Leslie Anderton will be giving a
slide show on the local geology of the area on Saturday
night.

® FRIDAY

10:30 a.m. “Skins and Skulls.” Come see this display of
some of the birds and animals found in the Kootenays. At the
adventure playground.

8:30 p.m. Cougar! Come see this slide show on the lives
of these large, secretive wild cats.

SATURDAY

10:30 a.m. Kids! It's the Great Bannock Blowout! Come
try your hand at cooking bannock, the bread used by fur
traders and trappers. Meet at the Change House at the
public beach.

8:30 p.m. Guest speaker: Leslie Anderton will be giving
a slide show on rocks, minerals, and local geology of the area.

SUNDAY

10:30 a.m. Rock Climbing. Ever wonder how climbers
use all that funny-looking equipment to climb up and down
mountains? Come see this demonstration and find out. Meet
at the bulletin board near the entrance to the campground
and be sure to wear hiking footwear.

8:30 p.m. Film night. Tonight's films are Life in the
Woodlot and A Crowded Wilderness.

MONDAY

10:30 a.m. Kid's games. Nature games for kids at the
adventure playground.

8:30 p.m. Very Important Plants. Come see this slide
presentation on some of the edible and other important
plants found in the Kootenays.

TUESDAY

9 p.m. Wonders of the Universe. An astronomer from
the MacMillan Planetarium in Vancouver will be giving a
slide show and setting up telescopes for stargazing.

This year’s Castlegar Lib
rary Summer Reading Pro
gram has come to a close. The
1987 program was a great
success. It was six weeks
long, catering to four differ
ent age groups and held the
children’s interests through
out the summer.

Weekly themes included
monsters, friends, nature,
fairy tales, circus, and bears.

Most of the songs, crafts,
games. and activities — re-
volved around these themes.

The children enjoyed such
activities as making kites,
decorating cookies, making
playdough, putting on puppet
shows and hunting for trea-
sure.

Children received prizes
for reading 20 books, donated
by the south end and down-
town Dixie Lees, Dairy
Queen and McDonalds.
