TEENAGE PROJECT Theatre Energy on tour Nelson's Theatre Energy will be touring its teenage drug and alcohol awareness project, Calling the Play, to nine local schools from May 9 to 17. Developed by the company with assistance from the Nelson Community Services and Castlegar Savings Credit Union, the project is a two-hour theatre production accompanied by an education package created by Nelson Access. Besides carefully develop- ed class-room sessions, the package contains suggested methods of involving tea. chers, parents and students in an omgoing awareness program. Theatre Energy's presen tation is based on a life-sized board game with the par. ticipation of pp*to 80 stu- dents. Company members will be asking questions, stimulating discussions and acting out scenes. Students will learn rele- vent facts and be encouraged to make decisions about typical situations involving drug and alcohol use. It is an opportunity for students to discuss their at- titudes and feelings and to realize that the power to make choices about this im- portant issue ultimately rests with them. “We are very pleased with the large amount of com- munity support received,” commented Artistic Director 44th ANNUAL CRESTON VALLEY = », ) Ive “4 BLOSSOM FESTIVALS MAY 17-20, 1985 SCHEDULE OF EVENTS eEEDAY, MAY 17 9:00 om Wildlife 5:00 pe 7:08 p= 348 = YORK CARPETS YORK DRAPERY — YORK UPHOLSTERY \ \\ © CARPETS & LINOLEUM © DRAPERIES & ACCESSORIES © UPHOLSTERY & ACCESSORIES © STEAM CLEANING @ INSTALLATIONS ) For Free Estimates Call Richard Rowberry. “The IODE, Lions, Eagles and Ro- tary clubs have all made sub- stantial contributions. Former Cominco executive dies Ralph Donald Perry, Com- inco's senior executive in Trail for many years, died Thursday in Victoria. He was 76. He is survived by his wife, Mary, and one son, Donald, in Vancouver. A memorial service was held Tuesday at St. George's Anglican Church in Victoria. Mr. Perry was born in Hampton, New Brunswick in 1908, attended Acadia Uni- versity in engineering, and had a year of post-graduate study at Queens. He joined Cominco in 1928 and had many years of ser- vice in the refineries. In 1952 he became general manager of Western Operations, at Trail, and in 1956, vice-presi dent. In 1958 he became a director. In 1964 Mr. Perry was moved to head office in Mon treal and in 1966 he became executive vice-president. He retired in 1969 after 41 years of service. Mr. Perry was well known in Trail and always had a strong interest in the com. munity. He fished Kootenay Lake regularly. A friend recalls that when the Smoke Eaters were look ing for money to go to the world championship in 1961, they went to see Mr. Perry. “How much do you want?” RALPH PERRY . . dled Thursday he asked. They weren't sure. “Cominco will give you $4,000," he said (which was enough to cover wages) “and if you need more, come back.” He later authorized help for championship jackets. Under his administration, funds were given for the con- struction of the Cominco gymnasium and for other projects.
