Mr. Makortoff was born Feb. 27, 1921 at Ootischenia and moved to Robson with his parents at age 10. His earlier years were spent on the farm raising vegetables and tending his orchard. He married Vera Postnikoff at Robson in 1942. He worked for Oglow Brothers Construction for many years and then went to work as a custodi- an for School District No. 9 retiring in 1986. He enjoyed working in his garden, reading and tending his orchard. He is survived by son and daughter-in- law, Peter and Paula of Robson, daughter and son-in-law Verna and Bill Pack of Nanoose Bay, B.C.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dora Boolinoff of Robson and Helen marken of South Slocan; and close com- panion Anne Maloff. He was predeceased by his wife Vera in 1973. Funeral service was held on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 1991 with burial at the Brilliant Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Castlegar Funeral Chapel. Ronald Harmston Ronald Claude Harmston of Castlegar died on Thursday, Dec. 15, 1991, at age 74. Mr. Harmston was born on Nov. 15, 1917 in Portsmouth, Great Britain. He came to Canada with his parents in 1919 and lived in Manitoba. He moved to South Slocan where he met and married Doreen AM. Peachey in August of 1939. They lived in Crescent Valley while he worked on the Brilliant Dam as a high rigger. They moved to Trail in 1940 and then to Castlegar in 1941. He worked at Cominco for a number of years then worked as an auto mechanic at Oswald Motors and Co- op Garage. He served in the Canadian Army and was a member of the Castlegar Fire Department for a good many years. He enjoyed salmon fishing, hunting and camping. He is survived by two daughters, Faye Hyson of Blueberry Creek and Sharon Taylor of Robson; two sons, Roland of Robson and Randie of Fairview; 12 grand- children; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters. Blanche Lister of Cranbrook and Barbara Knutson of Sardis; three broth- ers, Robert Harmston of Oasis, Bond Mathon of Winfield and Lenard Harmston of Castlegar. He was predeceased by his wife, Doreen, in 1971; his-parents, Arthur in 1964 and Alice in 1967; and sisters Violet in 1914 and Pearl in 1917. Funeral service will be held at the Castlegar Funeral Chapel on Thursday, Dec. 12, 1991 at 10:00 a.m. with Dorothy Barker officiating. Cremation has taken place. The Rebels lost 4-3 to the Maple Leafs in Nelson Friday, then returned home Saturday to put in one of their worst performances of the year in a 8-3 loss to the Grand Forks Border Bruins at the Commu- nity Complex. It was crushing results in a weekend series that had been termed do or die by some Rebels players. While not exactly dead yet, the Rebels have dug them- selves a deep hole in the base- ment of the Kootenay Interna- tional Hockey League’s West Division.
