Mrs. T. Fourt, the club's president, called the meeting to order and opening prayers were recited by Father Barnes. Following the reading of min- utes by the secretary, Mrs. J. Kaufman, a report of the barn dance was given by the con- vener, Mrs. T. Fourt and the proceeds were turned over to Mrs. Buckna, the club’s treas- er. Mr. William Robinson, com- mittee head of the dance, gave the meeting some worthwhile information on the various ex- penses connected with the barn dance. Sincere thanks and ap- preciation were expressed by Father Barnes to the convener and her assistants and also to the Kinnaird Improvement So- ciety for this seuccessful pro- ject the club sponsored. A wedding of interest to Kin- naird was solemnized in Trail last Saturday evening at St. Andrew's church, when Miss Madge Hargrave, eldest daughter of Mr. Sam Hargrave and the late Mrs. Hargrave, of Kinnaird, was married to Mr. Stewart Jas. Roe of Trail. Following a short trip to they are making their home in Kin- naird. Mrs. L. Pratte and Marylyn of Crawford Bay were week-end guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. F. Mitchell. Mrs. A. Schiavon and daughter Tony are spending a few days with friends at Grand Forks. The Annual Father and Son Banquet, sponsored by the Bad-~ en Powell Club, took place on Monday, February 25th, at the Kinnaird Community hall, with a record ‘attendance of over 100. Following the supper, Mr. J. Wisted, chairman of the group committee, introduced Mr. A. H. W. Busby of Trail, president of the Scout District Council. Mr. Busby spoke ‘to the gathering, outlining the Scout: organization, and gave a financial report for the district. Douglas Burrows and Donald Davis, on behalf of the Scouts and Cubs respective- ly, each proposed a toast to the Queen. Gordon Bazeley gave a vote of thanks to the ladies of the Baden Powell Club for the lovely supper served. Then on behalf of the Cubs, Don: Idle , Proposed a toast to the Fathers. The new Scout leaders, Mr. Ron- ald Parks and Ken Pickering were introduced. Cub leaders Major Moll and Mr. R. Smales spoke a few words. Several of the fathers volunteered to. assist the Scout leaders with the boys in teaching them knots and box- ing, ete. The boys fought gamely to overcome the point deficit but just didn’t have the reserve strength to come through, The Junior Badminton Tour- nament held in Castlegar last week-end was one of the best tournaments that the officials have ever put on. Crawford Bay and Nelson play- ers pretty well dominated the play as Crawford Bay took 7 titles and Nelson 5. Peter Godfrey and Marvin Wil- son of Nelson took both the doubles under 16 and 18. Rose and Peter McGregor de- feated Joy McEwan and Jack Newstead 15-13 and 17-16. _ Rose McGregor and Sylvia Koch won the girls doubles und- er 18. M. Pratte and K. McGregor of Crawford Bay downed Sylvia Shorthouse and Peter Godfrey of Nelson for the mixed doubles crown under 16. Dolly Fife and Alice Ronmark of Nelson took the doubles under 16 for girls. In girls singles D. Johnson of Crawford Bay took the under 14 and Sylvia Shorthouse of Nelson the under 16 class. Rose McGregor won the under 18 class. Jack NewStead of Nel- son retained his under 18 title. Peter McGregor of Crawford Bay won the under 16 event and J. Balleny of Tadanac won the under 14 title. K. C. C. Dance Huge Success KINNAIRD, B. C. — The Kin- naird Catholic Club held one of the most successful popular and barn dances on Friday in the Kinnaird Improvement So- ciety hall. The enormous crowd enjoyed some good old reels called by Mr. W. Morrice, and regretted to see the dance come to an end. People from all parts of the district were. present. Har- vick and together with Father Barnes they turned the Harvick recreation room into a veritable hive of activity. A variety of in- door games left nothing to be desired in the way of entertain- ment, chief among which were: ping pong, mechanical hockey games, monopoly and bingo. In a series of hockey games Mar- vin LeRoy, Wayne Harvick and Rene Brodman were final com- petitors. In ping pong, Father Barnes took top honors edging K C. Club Visits Trail Council On Sunday evening after de- votions Father Barnes and @ representative group of Knights of Columbus journeyed to Trail to participate in a meeting by the club’s mother council. Grand Knight Dr. J. Harrigan was in the chair and welcomed the Castlegar Brother Knights. Father Barnes was called upon to address the Knights, of which there were about 40 in attend- ance. Chocolate bars were the priz- es for the bingo games and Rich- ard Knoblauch, Arvi Pellegrin and Dino Zanet managed to win their share of sweets. Enjoyable as were the games, the best part of the evening came with the lunch — and Mrs. Har- vick added generously to the refreshments provided. Hot dogs served picnic style and pop and cookies then when the large heart-shaped chocolate cake and white cakes were brought out, a chorus of “ohs and ahs” came in unison from eight already well-fed boys. | After a few more games of a less strenuous nature, Father Barnes brought to a close a won- derful evening with the thought that Ash Wednesday was only an hour away so off we went home after a dandy party. Our thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Harvick for their generosity and kindness in allowing us the use of their home and for the de licious lunch which we all en- joyed. Mr. and Mrs. S. P.
