opinion in the construction of the
treaty between Great Britain and
Russia, made in 1825. ‘The strong
point in favor of the United States
is that they are in possession, but
justice is wholly with Canada. No
fair minded board of arbitrators
would deny to her the right of ac-
cess to the British Yukon, or com-

* pel her merchants to pay a customs
tribute to a foreign government.
Hence the agitation across the bor-
der. It is quite probable that the
arrangement will become perma-
nent, because justice requires that
such should be the outcome of the
controversy.

Accurious craze has cropped up
for the protection of landmarks and
places of historical interests against
the mythical assaults of American
millionaires. Stonehenge is the

are marshaling the . public into a
patriotic fervor, subsequent to the
announcement that it is for sale.
An official of the Antiquarian Socie-
ty says an American speculator has
already made an offer with the view
of transporting Stonehenge to the
United States. Stonehenge is a
collection of huge stones on the
Salisbury plain, Wiltshire, Englana,
about eight miles north of Salisbury.
Its name is old Saxon, and signi-
fies ‘hanging stones.” Seen from|#
a distance they appear to be merely
an irregular mass of stones, but a
