The CRTC decision, handed down Dec. 22, gives the CBC the go-ahead for an FM radio transmitter at Winlaw to, re-broadcast the CBC's AM programs The.FM transmitter duplicates the services of the low-power transmit ters currently in operation at Slocan City (CBUJ) and New’ Denver (CBUI), said Arnold Reeves, CBC's regional engineer for B.C CRTC regulations don't allow. the CBC to run an AM and FM service in the same area, but the broadcasting corporation will maintain both ser. vices for.a year while. promoting the FM service The new FM could be available as early as two weeks from now and certainly by the end of Feb: ruary, Reeves said. It will broadcast at 91,7 megahertz Reeves explained that over the years the CBC has had complaints about services lacking in as of the valley ‘We are improving our coverage of those areas,’’ he said - Reeves added that FM service will be more powerful because the trans mitter is located on top of a moun tain, He says everything is almost in place and technicians are just waiting for suitable weather to install a re ceiving antenna system on the moun tain to rebroadcast the AM _ pro service certain grams. Rose's Restaurant in South Slocan is closed until February for renova tions to the kitchen-area. The res taurant will enlarge its kitchen and put in new equipment.
