On Wednesday evening last, the Rossland Legion pool club took on a group from Northport's White Bird Tavern and the outcome was quite · decisive, as the Rossland crew took the tourney by an 8-3 margin. The winners for Rossland were Carl Seefeldt, Gary Seefeldt, Jim Schuck, Sammy Manson, Bert Pengelly, Rob Harrasin, Al Stinson and Jamie Richardson. On the Northport crew the winners were Moe Gilbert, Joe Letoria and Clyde Nyman. This is an ongoing event as the Legion crew makes periodic visits to the taverns in Northport to play on their home tables. Bert Pengelly passed along the information that a local tournament will be held in the Rossland Legion on Sunday, June 22. So any of you guys who fancy yourselves with a pool cue, drop by and sign up for it. You'll get first class treatment all round. Legion members only. This is the season of the year when we hold grad parties for the kids whose days in high school are over and we can only hope that this year's event will see nothing worse happen to our kids than painting a few "Grad '86" signs around town. I heard a·rwnor that this year's party will be held in Northport. Don't know how true this is, but I sure hope it turns out alright if it is. I ran into an old friend the other day. "Whiz" Topliff has been under the weather for some time past, but he was walking around the other day and tells me he does quite a lot of it. Outside of a bit of a limp, he doesn't look too bad. So, Whiz, just take care and we wish you a real good recovery so that you may continue fishing the lakes and streams of the Kootenays. I see where our "Kardiac Kids" won the battle over Dennis Ferrey's aggregation of elder citizens and Dennis promises to change that all around at their next meeting. We can only say, you'd better be on your toes, this group doesn't fool around. The got the habit of winning some time ago and if I know those "kids," they don't take losing very easily. The Ro.<1Sland Bocce group, which has its headquarters at the local Legion, are underway for their 1986 season and things seems to be going very well. I shall try to give you some standings as soon as a pattern develops. Lots of teams playing and quite a list of spares, so we look forward to another season to match the others. Retirees' Day at the upper course on Tuesday, June 10 was a locely day again. I didn't hear anyone complain of the heat and yet there wasn't a cloud in the sky. The breeze was just enough to keep it comfortable. We had low net, low gross, closest to the pin on number five, and two hidden holes. Number six was the high one and number two the low. When everything was tallied up, Jim Scott had won the low gross with a sparkling 43 in low net and Bob Glover and Joe O'Connor both came out with 35's. Chris Christianson took KP on number five for the second week in a row with a shot that was five feet from the pin, and then three-putted. High on number six saw four tied at eight and Wilf Woodhouse won the draw. Three were at four for low on number two andBoger McKeown WM lucky on the draw. Talking to come people close to the Warriors over the last couple of days we hear the rates have been raised by the KIJHL. The proposal could make it very difficult for some hard-pressed teams to operate. More on this when I've heard the whole story. So, I'll just say, 'Till next time, then! ll
