Francis Donald (Frank) Avis, 7born October 17th, 1913 in Perry Siding, B.C., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 6th 1995 in Nanaimo General Hospital after a long iliness. Survived by his wife Mickey, of Beachcomber, sister Nellie Steele, sons Peter and Richard and five grandchildren Frank was raised in the Slocan Valley, then lived in Parksville for fifty years where he was a longtime businessman in the community. CRAFT On Thursday, June 15, 1995, Lilian Craft of Nelson passed away peacetully at Willowhaven Private Hospital at the age of 87 years. Mrs. Craft was bom in Castlegar, B.C., December 17, 1907. She attended school in Nelson and Rossland. After graduating from Normal School she obtained a teaching position at the Cominco mine at Coast Copper on Vancouver Island. It was there that she met her husband, George. They were married at Nelson's St. Saviour's Pro Cathedral August 25, 1930. George and Lilian spent the first years of their married life at Coast Copper. They, along with one other couple, were caretakers of the mine during the Depression Years when the mine was shut down. Lilian got her licence to operate a HAM radio because it was the only way they could communicate with the outside world. She and her husband later moved to the Caribou Mine in Nova Scotia. The couple returned to Brtish Columbia in 1941 when George transferred trom Cominco to West Kootenay Power. They lived at the Brifliant Dam and then in South Stocan until George retired. Mrs. Craft was active in the Anglican Church Worhen's Group at St. Matthew’s in South Slocan and also in Nelson. She enjoyed travelling, playing Scrabble, knitting and reading. She liked spending her time with her grandsons Mrs. Craft was predeceased by her husband George, a brogher. Percy, and a sister, Clara.
