IN MEMORY

Joan Crossley
Joan Gillespie Crossley of Castlegar passed away after a
ness at Castlegar Hospital at age 62.

Born in Halifax, N.S., and educated at Edgehill school in Windsor
and the Univeristy of King’s College Halifax, Mrs. Crossley came to
Castlegar in 1952 after residing in Bralorne and Kaslo.

While in Castlegar, Joan was active for many years and played key
roles in Kinnaird Little Theatre productions. She was leader of the
Junior Auxiliary for many years and a long-time member of the
Anglican Church Women.

She is survived by her loving husband George; daughter Pamela
and her husband Rick Fullerton and daughter Katie of Prince George,
Cathy and her husband Allen Markin, and daughters Carrie and Johan-
na of Castlegar; two stepchildren, Colleen and Dean, both of Calgary;
three brothres, Philip of Toronto, Peter of Calgary ang Paul of
Castlegar

She was predeceased by her father,
Walker, and her mother Ella G. Walker.

Funeral service will be held Friday, Oct. 5, 1990 at I p.m. at the-St.
David's Anglican Church with Rev. Dorothy Barker officiating. Burial
of the ashes will follow at Park Memorial Cemete|

If friends so desire, donations may be ve the Canadian Can-
cer Society. \

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Castlegar
Funeral Chapel.

Bill Palmer

William Wilfred (Bill) Palmer of Oshawa, Ont.,
27, 1990, after a long illness at age 36.

He is survived by his parents, Bob and Ann Palmer of Castlegar;
his brothers and their wives, Bruce and Marcia, Ken and Pat, David and
Carol; three nieces and five nephews.

A memorial service will be held at the Castlegar United Church on
Friday, Oct. 5 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Ted Bristow officiating.

The September meeting of the
Catholic Women’s League was held in
the church rectory with 24 members
present

President Brita Haley called the
meeting to order with the spiritual
convenor leading the women in their
League Prayer. Minutes of the last
meetings were read by secretary Jerri
Woods. Joan Muller gave the finan-
cial report stating money is being
again sent to CWL’s foster child.
Maria Sequeira was the receipient of
the Haywood bursary.

Plans for the bazaar to be held
Nov. 17 in the Legion Hall were
discussed. Bishop Peter Mallon will
be blessing the new Parish Centre on
Dec. 16 and the event is eagerly an-
ticipated

Women are showing much en.
thusiasm about coming projects, first
being a list of mass times for every
diocesan church to be made available
to travellers. Plans are being made for
a “‘diabetic food table’’ at the bazaar
and a mini-bazaar will be held in the
new facility in early December.

ordering Fatima in Lucia’s Own
Words and anyone interested in a
copy should get in touch with her

Paula Laurie was again welcomed
back into the organization and two
new members who joined were Mira
Zanrosso and Nives Furlan. Blondine
Perra was visiting in our area and
pleased all by joining with us for the
evening

At 8:30 p.m., Thelma Ehman as
guest speaker informed CWL about
Vials for Life and in addition gave an
interesting history about Hobbit Hill
and its beginning.

Doreen Moore, assisted by
Catherine Stadler, is currently plan-
ning the bazaar with Hannah
Briggeman and Margaret Nagel to
help Josephine Fornelli in the kitchen.

A West Kootenay regional con-
ference was held in Trail Sept. 29 with
the following attending: Margaret
Nagel, Theresa Hajdasz, Rosa
Fogolin, Maria Ambrosio and Haley.

the Oct. 17 bingo party to be held at
the Rota Villa

An exhibition of oil paintings by
the recently formed Brush and Pallet-
te Art Club will be held at the Nelson
Museum from Oct. 5-31

The 14 members of the club are
former students of Merrit Kortegaard
and Kortegaard herself. The group
has been meeting regularly to paint
since the classes were completed with
their teacher's retirement in 1989.

Members of the group whose pain-
tings will be in the exhibition are Kor-
tegaard, Kathie McAdams, Laura
Coventry, Gertrude Littlewood, Edna
Mierau, Gladys Frocklage, Marjory
Watson, Bea McKinnon, Connie
Walton, Mary Ryan, Charlene Tees,
Jill Cowan, Kay Powell and Carol
Waters.
