It’s a tough lesson to learn and it means we'll be harder to beat in the future.” However, the SHSS team was not the only one learning tough lessons. The unofficial results at the end of the second round had Bel- | mont High School from Victoria winning the Championship. But that only lasted a few min- utes until race officials disqualified two players, one from Belmont and the other from Centen- nial, for use of illegal substances on the course. That bumped Belmont down to a tie for third place with Kelowna and gave Semiah- moo High’School the overall victory with a total score of 628. The third-place tie was bro- ken in a playoff, with Belmont coming out on top. The best golfer overall was Mike Zuccol- in of Centennial who put together rounds of 71 and 72 for a 143 total score and a four- stroke lead on the second place golfer. “We worked hard all year to get to this spot,” said Semiahmoo coach Doug Stone, whose team was playing in their 21st competi- tion of the year. “The identical team is back here from last year and that’s the goal we set 1995 High School Champs - Semiahmoo High School in March.” Stone's team is made up of five strong golfers, three of which will be gradyating and going on to post-secondary schools on golf scholarships next year. Andy Moore is off to the University of Missouri, Ryan Stone will be attending Arkansas State and Greg Zemrau will be going to Simon Fraser. As for Stanley Humphries, nobody is going anywhere. Both Creighton and Carew are in Grade 11, Cory Quiding and Kyle Neeson are in Grade 10 and the aforementioned Jason Quiding is still coming into his own as a Grade nine player. The experience gained this year will certainly come in handy in next year’s tournament. Every player on the team feels confident they will be back next year and all had a steely glare in their hungry eyes when they said they would win it. And Creighton promised he would watch his scorecard more carefully. The 71 he shoots next year will count. It’s a good warm-up for the B.C. Amateur in four weeks.” Carew also qualified for the B.C. Amateur Tournament which will be held in Castlegar this year July 3-7.
