Page, 14 The Castlegar Sun Wednesday, September 28, 1994 FERN TWO & FOUR WHEEL ALIGNMENT JEFF GABERT Sun Sports Stanley Humphries Secondary School was the place to be for hard-hitting volleyball action last Saturday, as the school held its annual senior girls invitational tournament The tournament featured five senior girls teams form the Kootenay region all vying for the Rockettes dance over competition at SHSS volley set up a much anticipated final between Stanley Humphries and LVR of Nelson. Nelson took the opening game 15-5 and seemed to be in control, They used a superb passing game ec d with precise finishing spikes to disorient the Castlegar girls. But the Stanley Humphries Rockettes weren't yet ready to hear taps and they rallied to win a close second game 15-13, champ p. The was only exhibition, but was used by all the clubs as an important tune-up for the regional play- downs in mid-November. Revelstoke, Trail, Nelson and Mt. Sentinel (South Slocan) all took part in the single-day event which attracted a surprising num- ber of spectators to the Stanley Humphries gym. The host team did not disappoint as they fin- ished the round-robin portion of the tourney with a 3-1 record and first seed in the playoffs. Mt. Sentinel and Nelson also finished with 3-1 records but Castlegar had a better head-to- head record. Revelstoke slipped into the playoffs with a record of 1-3 and Trail went home with- oul awin In the first semi-final match, Castlegar easily dispatched Rev- elstoke 15-5 and 15-10. Castle- gar coach Grant Apostolik was Pleased with the effort as well as the ball passing ability of his club even though he felt the vol- leyball tended to resemble “jun- gle ball” at times.
