MISS EDITH MILLER A Noted Singer to Appear Next Satur- q@ay. Miss Edith Miller who will appear with her company in the Miners Union hall on Saturday next is ac- knowledged to be the most gifted of all the singers who have ever ap- peared on this continent. This is saying a good deal but no more than can be substantiated. Col. Mapleson of opera fame says so. The press trom one side of Canada to the other says so. She is ac-: companied by Mr. Stanley Adams the well-known barritone; Mr. Robert Campbell the lyric tenor and Miss Jean Forsythe soprano, and the whole programme will be such a treat to the musical people of this town as they have never had before and are not likely to have again for atime. Governo Mack- intosh writes as follows concerning Miss Miller—and the governor is no mean judge himself of music. Rossland, Sept. 1, 1900. Dear Mr. Falding: I am sure you deservecredit, if the report be true, that Miss Edith Miller and her company will shortly appear in Rossland. Miss Miller is a Canadian and has already received the en gmiums ot the London press. Her vaice is really marvelous and I am ¢rlad to say is appreciated wherever she ap- pears. When they hear Miss Mil- ler, the people of Rossland will cer- tainly concur in theopinion express- ed by me, Ever faithfully C. H. Mackintosu. Mr. Falding is certainly doing his best to bring good entertain- ments to this city and it should be that good companies ‘by the patriotic h ity of the People themselves. That the cere- monies attendant upon his recep- tion are thus vitalized we have good reason to believe. The very best that Rossland could do in the way of illumi and — decora was done; and we feel sure that His Excellency * appreciates what has been done on this behalf. OF course his eyes have witnessed far grander pageants than the stieet parade with which he was greeted and escorted from the railway sta- tion. Of course even the goodly arch on Columbia avenue must have seemed tame and dwarfed in his eye if he were unkind enough to compare it with the greater gor- geousness of older and more settled communities, It is hardly neces- sary to say that the public recep. tion in Miners’ Union hall, when contrasted with a state occasion in Ottawa or London may appear to Lord Mirito somewhat as a village stage performance at a school jencem or an the- atrical rehearsal would to one who had been accustomed to see and require heavy guarantees and this company is no exception to therule. The plan of the hall is at Rolls’ Drug Store where tickets may be had. Deaths of Children, The eight-months’-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Barnes, at Seventh avenue and Monte Cristo street, died Sunday andthe remains were interred this forenoon in Columbia cemetery. The services were con- ducted from St. George’s church. The little adopted child of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Foley, aged four months, was buried yesterday in the Roman Catholic cemetery, the fun- eral service being held at the house. “ee aia Steptoe Is Here.
