Former CPR
Employee Dies
At Age 78

Funeral services began
last Thursday evening and con-
cluded at noon Friday from the
Chapel of the Castlegar Funeral
Home for Antony Sedlak of
Castlegar, age 78 years, who
died Dec. 21 at the Castlegar
and District Hospital,

Mr. Sedlak was born May
12, 1899 in Czechoslovakia and
came to Canada in the early
1920s. He settled in B, C, where

Fire Razes
Huss Home
In Rosebery

A Rosebery home, occu-
pied by Mr. and Mrs. Ronald
Huss, burned to the ground
Dee, 22 in spite of efforts of the
New Denver volunteer fire
department which attended the
blaze.

No cause has yet been
given nor has there been an
estimate released on the value
of the building owned by Mr.
Huss' father Ed. Insurance was
carried.

At the time of the fire both
men were at work and Mrs.
Huss was out shopping.

Firemen did however,
manage to save a nearby trailer
and storage shed by soaking
them with water.

‘Game Won by Canada

The 17th Anual Canada vs. Scotland curling game, took place at
the Castlegar Curling Rink on New Year’s morning.

Representing Canada was Captain Dick Wayling with a fine

team comprised of Al Jaques, Bill Ellis, Jack Chernoff, Peter

Kazakoff and Lyle Roberts,

Representing Scotland was Captain Alex McKinnon with his
upstanding group of John Stewart, Bill Watt, Bill McYzerléo,
Allan McKinnon and Steve Mathieson.

At the pre-game breakfast of bacon, eggs, black pudding and
Drambuie, prepared by Clarice McKinnon, the credentials of the
teams were checked. One of the requirements to qualify for this
game is no sleep on New Year's Eve. While some of the  takesNo.1 priority. He said the
participants looked, overly fresh, others obviously qualified,

going well with the Scottish team, until Long Slide Ellis took
advantage of a momentary lapse and sneaked in the winning rocks

The Scottish team attributed the Canadian win to the fine
work of the non-playing coach, Trig Kaardal. Since the use of a
professional coach was introduced without prior consultation,
there fs some doubt about the legality of the result.

The Scottish standard bearer, John Stewart, has been
instructed to contact the Royal Society of Rivitters and Hodders of
Port Glasgow for an official ruling.

In light of the protest, the Canadian captain has assured the
Scottish team that a rematch will be arranged, the tentative date

being Jan. 1, 1979.

Inthe meantime, the final result of 4 to 3 for Canada will go in

the record book.
