our: columns for the past few
weeks, it seems they have all
been rather heavy and some-
what sober. I figure it’s time for
a change of pace. So we're a
little on the lighter side this
week—with some anecdotes
aboutr preachers,

“A businessman had stop-
ped &¢ the study of a clergyman
to tahte him to lunch and just as
they*:were leaving, the tele-
phoné rang. The pastor listened
courteously for about five min-
utes, then began to reply. In
thes middle of a sentence,
however, he broke the conn
tion-with his finger, then hung

‘When I simply have to get
away--I always hang up on
myself," he said.

"The poor telephone com-
pany gets blamed. Bores would
never think a man would cut off
his own voice.”

DURING ‘ONE OF THE
big snowstorms out west, so
few people came to church one
Sunday that the minister won-
.dered whether to deliver the

long sermon he had prepared or
to give instead a short sermon
he had ‘used before. Finally he
decided to go ahead with. the
one he had worked on all week.

Afterwards he asked one
of the ranchers in attendance
how he liked the sermon.

“Just fine,” replied the
rancher, “But if I take a big load
of feed out to the cattle duringa
storm, and only a few show up,
I durn sure don't give them all
the feed I have.”

Sunday School bus had been
annoyingly frequent. No doubt
this was in little Diane's mind
as she climbed aboard one
Sunday morning and asked:
“Why don’t we get a new bus?"

“Oh, this is a good bus,”
replied the preacher-driver.
Then, seizing the opportunity
to make the incident an object
lesson, he added:

“You children should pray
for the bus. Then we wouldn't
have so much trouble.”

Diane thought this over,
but only for a moment.

“Why don’t we get a new

bus?” she suggested innocent!
“Then we can pray for it."
