Beta celebrates 25 years Trail and Nelson chapters of Beta Sigma Phi joined Castlegar chapters last Wed- nesday at the Fireside Motor Inn to celebrate a very special Founders Day anni- versary. This marks the year that Beta Sigma Phi has been in Canada for 50 years and in for 25 years. Beta Sigma Phi is a ladies group that was started in Kansas in 1931 and expanded to Canada in 1985. Its motto is Life, Learning and Friend- ship and it offers any woman an opportunity to make friends and improve herself. Today, chapters reach scholarship funds are part of the interests. Heart Seniors buy bocce balls The regular meeting of the Castlegar Senior Citizens Association was held May 1 in the seniors’ hall. The swimming club is go ing well and senior women are asked to join the group on Fridays at 10 a.m. in the Sandman Inn pool. On a motion by Ernie Neu man and Nels Latta it was decided to hold a wind-up dance in June and invite out lying clubs. The secretary will issue invitations as soon as a date is set. Recreation centre repre sentative Pat Dillon address ed the seniors, offering trips this summer. He got a good showing of hands of people who were interested. The first trip will be to Kelowna. Dillon asked for input on places anyone would like to The social meeting May 15 will, be. held, in. the,.Twia, Rivers, elementary school to hear a band concert and choir. Members are asked to meet at the seniors hall for transportation to and from the school and to return to the hall for refreshments after the concert. Members should be at the hall by 12:45 p.m. for a ride. The secretary was also asked to write a letter of thanks to Henry John and Associates for their help in doing income taxes for the seniors.
