VIT 2M6 Bids must be made out on the Fisheries. likes fish -- _results Fisheries staff of the Min- istry of Environment in Nel- son are “happy” with 1985 kokanee fry production from Arrow and Kootenay Lake spawning channels. Arrow Lakes biologist Bob _ Lindsay '-has just compiled results of the fry enumera- tion program at the Hill Creek spawning. channel lo- cated north of Nakusp on the Upper Arrow system, ac- cording to a prepared re- lease. He, reports some three million fry were produced “from the channel for a record high 69 per cent egg/fry sur- vival rate. “This survival rate is about 10 times that of the natural stream and much higher than Lindsay had pre- dicted,” says the release. Regional Fisheries Biolo- gist Harvey Andrusak says the Redfish Creek channel on the West Arm of Kootenay Lake produced some 144,000 fry for a 15 per cent egg/fry survival rate. “This estimate is an im- provement over 1984 but lower than 1983,” says the ~ release. .. Andrusak adds, “The Red- fish channel is producing fry at a rate three times that of the natural stream. How- ever, some further work is ~required-as we-are counting _on about a half-million fry per year from this channel. I am confident that we can in- ‘crease the production from -the Redfish channel.” ‘porting By ALISON WARNER f eter, Syringa Creek Provincial Park ‘This summer at Syringa Creek Provincial Park a: weekly park interpretation program’ will be offered.
