Still missing The search for missing canoeists, Tynisha Parsons, 22, and Spencer Rockley, 18, has been scaled back. The two went missing after a | am. canoe ride on Kootenay Lake Feb. 9. The canoe, which had a hole in it, its oars, and Parson's lighter were later found on the south shore of the west arm of Kootenay Lake. Chased A would-be thief was chased off by a Robson resident after the thief smashed out the front window Feb. 12 af Johnny's Grocery and Gas in Robson. The resident was unsuccessful in apprehend- ing the thief. Stolen A radio antennae was stolen from a vehicle parked at Eastgate Gardens Feb. 10 RCMP continue to investi- gate the theft. Accident Mikkell Nainan, of Faro Yukon has been charged with making an improper right turn after a two-vehicle accident Feb. 6. Castlegar RCMP Staff Sgt Kerry Solinsky told city council last week that the committee would act as advisor to local police. “If we can work together with the community we can solve these crime problems and community problems.” The committee would be pat- tered after police advisory groups elsewhere in the province. Solinsky pointed to the committee in Port Coquitlam as an example. The local committee will be made up of representatives from various groups and organizations in the area, such as seniors, business, service clubs and youth. “I’ve already been in contact with the schools,” Solinsky said. He said he is in the stages of Solinsky said the committee would not replace the RCMP. “J wouldn't want people report- ing crimes to the committee, because that’s not their function.” However, he said he could sec people coming to the committee with problems “and we can tackle it from there.” Councillor Jim Makortoff will be the city representative on the committee. Solinsky indicated he would be seeking regional district representation as well. Environmental impacts from the Jan. 20 CPR derailment into Kootenay Lake haye been shown to be minimal. Analysis by BC Environment has determined the petroleum products and lead concentrate spilled into the lake at the time of the derailment are below lev- els toxic to aquatic life and water quality guidelines.
