BOUNCING MOTHBALLS

Fill a tall glass jar with water,
then slowly stir in three teaspoons
of white vinegar and two tea-
spoons of baking soda. The water
will get fizzy. If your jar is very
large, you may need to double the
amount of baking soda and vine-
Bar to get enough fizz going. Add
a few drops of food colouring
(for drama) and then drop in three
or four mothballs. First the moth-
balls will sink to the bottom, but
then little bubbles will form all
over them and carry the moth-
balls to the top. Then back down
they sink. This will go on for
quite some time — in fact, far
beyond the attention span of the
average child.

SLIME

Pour some cornstarch into a
bowl — start with at least half a
cup or so. Now, very gradually
add a few drops of water at a time
and stir together. At first it will
Stay quite clumpy, but eventually
it will seem to liquefy. At this
point stop adding water (too
much and you lose the effect).
Now try to pick some of this stuff
up in your fingers. It will feel sort
of solid but then it drops off your
fingers in the most repulsively
slimy way. Need I tell you how
appealing this is to children? A
few drops of green food colour-
ing is a lovely finishing touch.

round cracker with a slice of pro-
cessed meat (salami) and a slice
of either cucumber or carrot.

HOOTER THE OWL—
Spread peanut butter on the top
end of a triticale cracker. Use
faisins for eyes and a peanut for a
‘beak .

ANTS ON A LOG — Fill cel-

ery sticks with peanut butter. Top
with raisins “Ants”.
