Pledges Estimated at $1,500 By Bob Rafter The ‘Aauanaute staged their annual fund-raising Swim- a-thon last Saturday. The day proved highly successful with an estimated $1,600 collected in pledges. I would like to take this spportunity to thank the people. of Castlegar and surrounding area for their generous support of the club, Most team members com- pleted the 72 laps (one mile) and received Mile Swim A- wards from the National Safety uncil, Silver and bronze crests were awarded to swimmers for achieve a time of 85 and 45 minutes ‘respect- fully. However, nobody was able toattain the gold standard of 25° minutes, The star’ of. the Swim-a-thon had to be Cathy Johnstone who, at the age of seven, was the youngest swim- mer to complete the mile. The challenge races also proved quite entertaining. After the Swim-a-thon, ‘many club members went over to Pass Creek Park for.a team barbeque. Through the efforts of James Beattie and Bill Gyurkovits the barbeque prov- ed quite successful. Mr. Com- mand was very instrumental in providing two finely construct- ed barbeques. Some people have been wondering if it is too late to join the swim club. There are gaps in many age groups which I am quite anxious to fill. If you are interested in joining, please feel free to contact me at the pool or at home.
