Rossland Light Opera The Rossland Light - Opera's production of “Little Mary Sunshine” will be staged Winning the Kootenay In- ternational Junior Hockey League championship for both years of their existence in the league, the Castlegar Rebels met their match on the week- end, dropping two games to the more experienced Quesnel Mil- lionaires to bring the club's season to an abrupt halt. The Millionaires defeated Castlegar 6-8 Friday night with the help of some superior goaltending from Larry Brunt, who faced 49 Rebel shots. Saturday, Castlegar held a 3-0 lead early in the final frame, but. Quesnel came back with four markers to send the game into overtime. In the 10-minute . extra period, the Millionaires scored twice in the first three minutes and.added an empty-net goal with 30 seconds to go to take a 7-5 victory. Friday night, the Million: aires opened the scoring in the. first minute of play, but the Rebels came back in the middle period with three goals to take a 8-2 lead after 40 minutes. The Millionaires had the upper hand in the final frame, notching three unanswered goals for the victory. Rebels’ coach Marc Pezzin felt that Brunt's goaltending was the major factor in deter- mining the winner. “He played exceptionally well,” he said, “and we lost our composure in the third period. We just couldn't put things together.” Win Winofsky led Quesnel with two markers, while singles went to Jerry Melnyk, Brian Fersterling and Brian Du- maine. Replying for Castlegar were Dave Kirby, Glen Soren- son and Steve Bozek. Quesnel sat out nine min- ors and a major and Castlegar was given seven minors and a. major. Castlegar outshot the Millionaires 49-80. : Saturday's match saw the Millionaires held scoreless until midway through the third ding scored their first goal of the game just after the second penalty expired and went on to add three more to send the game into ‘overtime, Three Quesnel goals.in the 10-minute period put the game and the series away for the club. The Millionaires will now meet the winners at the coast to determine the B.C. cham- picn. The final series will be played in Quesnel and is scheduled to begin Friday. Gord Pace led the Rebels Saturday with a hat-trick, and singles went to Bozek and Ed Smith. Roy Weppner notched a hat-trick for Quesnel, with Winosky, Doug Festerling, Brian Festerling and Lyle -In- glis rounding out the scoring. Castlegar outshot the Mil- lionaires 47-85 and received 12 of 26 minor penalties hands: out. This event will cover the whole Complex and also expand out to the parking lot.
