members of the Castlegar-
Robson Branch 170 of the
Castlegar Legion got toge-
ther New Year's Eve to bring
1987 in with a bang.

According to most reports,
the evening was a success
with Fraser and Bilenger
providing the dance music.

week-long visit. The group
will be given a Heritage
Walking Tour of Nelson's
downtown revitalization
project by coordinator Bob
Inwood before experiencing
the longest free ferry ride in
the world from Balfour to
Kootenay Bay.

Mealing, Wendy Hurts, Les-
ley Anderton and Bill Sloan
will present aspects of Koot-
enay culture, geography, ge-
ology and history. A tour to
Rossland’s Le Roi Mine Mu-
seum and a motor trip
through the Slocan Valley-
Kaslo-Ainsworth loop will
illustrate topics discussed
earlier.

For the remainder of the
week, a. day, of, skiing at
either, Red. Mountain or the
Nancy Greene circuit is plan-
ned, along with a cultural
tour up the Slocan Valley to
meet artists suchas Ann

There will be a St. Pat-
rick’s Day dance this year at
the Legion March 14. R.
Barley has formed a commit-
tee and is organizing this gala
occasion.

A meat draw will be held in

the near future so watch for
the date.

There was an awards cer-
emony Jan. 2 for Frans and
Maria Braal. Legion mem-
bers from as far away as
Kaslo attended the cere-
mony. This will be televised
around the end of the money
on Shaw Cable.

There is a Legion eight ball
poll tournament every Mon-
day night. The winners so far
have been Tim Court and
Paul Myers for the Jan. 5
game and Jocko McDonald
and Jim Olson for the Jan. 19
game.

Wednesday night darts is
also progressing well and al.
though it is starting to be-
come very professional, it is
still a night of fun and en-
joyment. .

The next general meeting
of the Legion will be Feb. 3.

Nineteen members of the
South Slocan Auxiliary held
their first meeting of the new
year at the home of Mary
Axworthy.

The year-end financial re-
port, presented by Hazel
Varney and audited by Freda
Dawes, was discussed and
received.

The report showed a total
of $5,300 donated to the Nel-
son Hospital during 1986.
This money was raised by the
volunteers mainly through a
garage sale, cookbook sales,
craft and bake sales, gift shop
and annual raffle.

The membership learned
of the reorganizing of the
candy stripers, and voted to
support their bursary.

Bobbi MacKay offered her
home for the February meet-
ing.
